$100 Million Investment in WNY
Did you hear? Oct. 17, 2018, was an incredible day for Western New Yorkers of all ages who want to get outside and play. In honor of what would have been Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.’s 100th birthday, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation announced a $100 million investment in Western New York’s parks and recreation infrastructure.
The gift will go toward creating a signature legacy park in Buffalo and providing access to that park and other regional assets. Through a connected trail system, the Wilson Foundation hopes to attract residents and visitors to bike paths and walking trails that will lead to some of the finest recreational spots in the Northeast.
What does this mean for Project Play WNY? As another sports initiative founded and funded by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, Project Play WNY is proud to be the programmatic arm for the Foundation’s capital improvement work. Project Play WNY’s guiding values are to ensure that kids from all zip codes have access to not only parks and sports facilities, but also quality programs in those spaces. Similar to our role with the Wilson Foundation’s earlier Built to Play initiative, Project Play WNY, through its Advisory Council and Working Groups, will be working to ensure that this region has quality youth sports programming taking place at both existing and the new play spaces created by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation’s generosity. Be sure to follow us on social media to track the latest Project Play WNY programming initiatives.
