Grantee Spotlight- Victory Sports Global Outreach, Inc.

At Project Play Western New York, we are thankful for all of our partners in youth sports across the region, and feature the important work of our grantees.Victory Sports Global Outreach, Inc. aims to help under-resourced schools, leagues, teams and kids obtain all the equipment they need to play a sport and compete.

It works toward this mission in many ways: accepting high quality used and new sports equipment that can in turn be donated to under-resourced programs; accepting gift cards from sporting goods and other retailers so they can purchase needed equipment; and accepting financial contributions. Additionally, it encourages community members to become neighborhood ambassadors by helping to collect sports equipment or by holding equipment drives, and advocates for more public locations for their donation barrels. The supplies are then stored in a warehouse and pre-approved groups can shop the inventory and select all the equipment they need at little or no cost to them.

Recently, with a grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo,  Victory Sports launched two new programs to help make sports equipment accessible to all children:

  • In July, the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library announced a new equipment share program at the Isaias Gonzalez-Soto Branch, where youth ages 17 and under can borrow soccer and lacrosse kits just like they would a book.
  • Ball bins were set up at area schools and parks, featuring a variety of sports equipment, like basketballs, frisbees, jump ropes and soccer balls. Kids are encouraged to “borrow, play and have fun, then please return when you are done!”

In addition to supplying athletic equipment, Victory Sports focuses on coaches training and partnerships with sports leagues that include programming. For more information, visit victorysports.org.
