Resources For These Times

To support the WNY community during the uncertainty of the COVID 19 crisis, Project Play WNY will continue to circulate through its social media channels and web-site, activities and information to help families and educators keep kids active and engaged.

Many of our Working Group members have noted that youth sports not only provide kids with physical activity, but also opportunities to socialize and connect with others. Kids and families are dealing with an entirely new structure of their daily lives, but we hope our 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. activity breaks can provide some structure for Free Play. We encourage you to make these activities interactive by replying to our posts with pictures and videos of you and your family finding ways to stay active and engaged.

We have also posted our Project Play WNY Free Play Deck of Cards on our website. Feel free to download the cards or tune into to our social media pages for ideas on how to break-up the online learning days with Free Play fun. Project Play WNY is partnering with the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, the Buffalo Police Athletic League, Confident Girl Mentoring, and Algonquin Sports for Kids. Each organization is posting short videos or messages that show kids how to stay positive, stay fit, or try something new.

This collaboration hopes to build into the larger #InHouseChallenge. These videos, along with those provided by #PlayAtHome with Playworks and Classroom Champions can help kids stay connected and busy during these long days. The Classroom Champions platform is available to families for free and explore such issues as emotions, anxiety ad goal setting through lessons led by Olympians.

If you are a youth sports organization, please take a second to click on and review this great list of resources developed by the WNY Nonprofit Support Group.  Throughout the next month, we will keep sharing these and other resources to help youth, families and youth sport organizations turn long days in to opportunities to learn something new.  Please feel free to do the same by sharing information that you have found useful and tagging @ProjectPlayWNY with hashtags #SupportEachOther and #StopTheSpread.
